It was a season of mixed reactions yesterday in Beijing for nigeria as the country celebrated the awarding of a belated Gold medal to its 4×400m relay mens team for the feat they achieved in the Sydney Games 8 years ago. Nigeria had placed second in that race but had since been feeling cheated as 4 of the 6 runners the American who placed first, used have at some point been convicted of doping offences.

The IOC finally rewarded Nigeria for its patience as the US team was stripped of its Gold medal and it was awarded to Nigeria. It will therefore be counted as Nigerias third Gold medal in the history of the Olympics after those won by chioma ajunwa (long jump) and the male soccedr team both in 1996 atlanta games.

Meanwhile as Nigeria celebrated, their female soccer team fondly called the falcons crashed out of the olympics after falling 1-3 to the mighty Brazil thus completing a three match losing streak.

They head home today as Nigeria still awaits its first medal in the Games.
